                               Climate
=======================================================================
January is in summer in South Africa. The day maximum temperature is 
around 30 degrees C and the night minimum temperature is about 10 
degrees C. It is the best tourist season in a year.

                               Languages
=======================================================================
There are 11 official languages in South Africa. In Johannesburg and 
Cape Town, most people speak English.

                          Currency and Tipping
=======================================================================
The rand is the national currency. The notes are available in five 
denominations: R10, R20, R50, R100 and R200, while coins are: 1, 2, 5, 
10, 20, 50 cents and 1, 2 and 5 rands. 
The rate of exchange is around R4.7 to US$1. Foreign currencies can be 
exchanged at airports and banks. 
Credit card is commonly accepted by most shops, hotels and restaurants.
All tipping is optional. A 10% service tipping in restaurants is common.

                              Local Flights
=======================================================================
To attend both events, one should book the air ticket to Cape Town with 
one stop at Johannesburg. It could be possible to book the air ticket to 
Johannesburg with one stop at Cape Town on the way back though.

There are many flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The following

The Johannesburg Airport is about 35KM from the workshop hotel. A Taxi 
is recommended for transportation from airport to hotel (about R100).

                             Tour Programs
=======================================================================
(1)  Johannesburg Tour
In search of a wilderness experience and adventure, it is to untamed 
Africa that travellers turn - a continent still teeming with wildlife. 
A half day tour in the afternoon of 12th January will be organised to 
see various kinds of rare animals in a natural, but controlled habitat. 
A Braai (barbeque) dinner is organised in the park thereafter.

(2) Cape Town Tour
A one-day tour in Cape Town will be organised on 16th January, from 
9am - 5:30pm, by E-S-State Tour.
Content:
After a historical background given by the tour guide, we leave Cape Town 
via Sea Point, the Platinum Mile, along Marine Drive past Clifton, 
Camps Bay overlooked by the Twelve Apostles, past Llandudno into Hout Bay 
for a scenic boat ride to visit the seal colony (optional).
Along Chapmans Peak, drive past Noordhoek into fish Hoek through Simons 
Town and Dido Valley where we admire the semiprecious stones at the scratch 
patch. Past breathtaking seascapes into the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, 
lunch at the Two Oceans Restaurant, to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope - 
the reputed meeting place of Indian and Atlantic Oceans.
On our return we visit the Pengnuin Colony at the Boulders in Simons Town, 
and the wine farm Groot Constantia for wine tasting (time permitting). The 
historic farm dates back to 1685 - favourite amongst noble palates - 
Napoleon ordered his wine from here. Back to Cape Town on Rhodes Drive - 
arriving 17:30.

(3) Additional Tour to The Kruger National Park 
    -- The finest South African National Park

A three-day tour (from Friday, 9 Jan. 6:30am to Sunday, 11 Jan. 4pm) 
to the Kruger National Park can be arranged for delegates on request.
Kruger National Park is about 400 km from Johannesburg. The tour is in 
air-conditioned minibuses with maximum 7 passengers in each bus. 
Booking can be made for any number of people. This programme is offered 
to those who plan to spend additional holidays in South Africa. 
The price per person is 
    R1800 (US$385), sharing in twin bedded chalet (air conditioned).
    R2100 (US$450), single chalet
including travel guide, transport, accommodations in the park, breakfasts 
and suppers. 
Note, to visit Kruger Park, anti-malaria precautions are adviced by 
the tour company. Please also bring sunglasses, camera, films, and some 
local money to buy various things you may want to buy.
