Curriculum 2001 Report-Back Philip Machanick School of Computer Science University of the Witwatersrand Private Bag 3, 2050 Wits, South Africa philip@cs.wits.ac.za Curriculum 2001 is a response to complaints that Curriculum '91 was too difficult for under-resourced academic institutions, as well as the need to update the content for changes in technology. Curriculum '91 defined knowledge units (KUs) and encouraged academics to define their own curricula by combining KUs in a flexible way. Curriculum 2001 therefore set out with fairly modest goals. Even so, some aspects have been controversial. This paper explains the reason for some of the controversy, and attempts to allay some of the concerns.
